Silly Goofy Life

Hark, hear ye, hear ye, Renaissance Faire season is upon us. The end of Ren Faire season. This Sunday I am to journey with my closest companions to the Michigan Renaissance Faire. I am to see a joust and I do hope to try my hand at the bow and arrow of one of my favorite legends Robin Hood.

I have been intrigued and honestly obsessed with medieval times for many years, since middle school. I got really into the BBC series Robin Hood, I loved the Drew Barrymore movie Ever After and as a history nerd I was mesmerized with the way the people of those times did things. I love the clothing and fantastical feeling that is often times associated with the medieval.

I have only been to the Ren Faire one other time in my life. Ten or more years ago, when I was still living in Wisconsin, I went to the Bristol Renaissance Faire with my family. My mom, sister, brother, cousins and aunts! We all dressed up and had a GREAT time.

This year I am going with my sister, my girlfriend and some of our friends! I am in charge of making flower crowns for myself, my sister and my girlfriend! I have yet to pick an outfit but I have ideas!

I love the ridiculousness of it all. I love that people give 110% with their costumes and their attitudes and characters!

It’s just a silly goofy place full of whimsical people being silly and goofy together because we can!

It’s important to have silly goofy things in this life that you can put all your energy into and truly enjoy. Life can get very serious when you reach adulthood. So, I recommend finding something that you can be silly and goofy with. If Renaissance Faires aren’t your thing don’t you worry there are MANY other options.

Look for the silly goofy things in life. Go to the beach and play like a child. Build a sandcastle and pretend to be a monster or giant and destroy it. Have themed dinners with the people in your life. Dress up to go to the grocery store. Find the whimsy in the mundane. Name your pet something no one else understands. Try a new hobby that you aren’t sure you will be good at.

Being silly and goofy is something that children are very good at and I can envy them at times. I envy their whimsy, but I am finding my own. Being silly, goofy and whimsical shouldn’t end when you grow up. If anything it should become more important.

Life as an adult is serious but it doesn’t have to be all the time.
