Spring bursting through my door

By

Sometimes I wish humans were hibernating creatures. I guess in some ways we are. In the winter we tend to stay indoors, eat more food, and sit by the fireplace wrapped up in a fuzzy blanket, or snuggled next to the person we love.

Winter is a time for rest and reflection. Spring is a time for activity and rebirth.

One of the best things about Spring is seeing all the baby animals as they enter the world and take their first steps. Or the buds on the trees as they prepare to bloom.

I have always associated, as I am sure most of us have, Spring with starting fresh. Waking back up and becoming alive again.

Winter is difficult, the animals leave or limit their time outside, the ground (if you live in the north) is covered in a thick blanket of white and trees are nothing but bare sticks shivering in the breeze. Water ceases to flow and birds quiet their songs. I even start to miss the incessant buzzing of the flys and gnats as they swirl a little too close to my ear.

I guess hibernation is a thing for humans just as it is for other creatures. A time to slow down, cozy up together and wait for Spring to burst through the door.

As I am writing next to my open window I can hear the sound of frogs and crickets as they present their nightly tunes.

We made it…another Winter has come and gone and Spring is finally knocking.
