So, everybody is doing their ins and outs of 2024, I kind of did that, actually no I didn’t, I in fact made a really long list of things that I want to do or accomplish this year or work toward to achieve in the coming years. I have taken the pressure off and the expectations that seem to end in a feeling of failure and/or let down by allowing myself time. These things have no deadline they are simply a representation of what I would like my life to be like. Essentially I made a vision board but in words rather than pictures. I made a vision board of pictures as well and made it the background to my phone and laptop. But anyway on to the interesting part…what is actually on the list. Now as I said it is quite an extensive list so I will not share the whole thing, I also feel as though I would rather show you or write about these things as they are happening. But I wanted to share a few…so here we go.
- Fully emptying containers before buying a replacement. This idea I got from somewhere on the internet, basically it is a method to save money. I tend to be an overspender as well as a shopping addict which is not helpful to my bank account and my large goals so one thing I am going to intentionally do is use the things I have in my possession already rather than letting myself buy things I don’t actually need…or need yet. Last year I noticed that I was buying replacements for things such as body wash, shampoo, conditioner, skincare like moisturizers, cleansers and serums way before I needed too and was always on the hunt for the next new thing rather than using and enjoying what I did have. That habit may not seem like it but it tends to make you spend way more money than if you had used what you had until it was gone or very low and then replaced it with a new one.
- Live More Sustainably. My long term goal is to live as earth conscious as possible and I have to start somewhere so I have decided to start with small things like using reusable containers for the snacks and sandwiches I bring to work rather than putting them in plastic bags I am just going to throw away. Also thrifting my clothes if possible so as not to create more clothing waste by buying from fast fashion companies. At some point I would like to learn how to compost but that might have to wait until I am in my own apartment. Which brings me to the next thing on the list.
- Move Out. I have lived with my parents for close to a year and a half and while I am very grateful they have allowed me to stay here I want to be out on my own again. It would be best for my mental health and honestly probably for theirs as well. If you are an adult who has had to move back in with your parents for any length of time you will know why I am saying this. Anyway…this year is not going to end before I have my own place again.
- Go To Therapy I feel like this one is pretty self-explanatory. I have wanted to go to therapy for a while and especially now because of different life circumstances as well as getting closer to my 30’s I would like to take the time and put in the effort to heal things within myself that I have been dealing with.
- Try Gouache Paint This one is just a fun one. I had seen someone I know post about using gouache for their art and I was intrigued by the fact people were saying it was like a cross between acrylic and watercolor so I bought some and used it for the first time the other day. Let me tell you I really like it. There is a slight learning curve as to all the different techniques but I know I will get the hang of it. I already really like it after only one painting. Technically I have already checked this off my list but I am adding it because I am going to continue to improve my skills.
- Take a Ceramics Class I have wanted to do pottery for the longest time. I want to learn how to use a pottery wheel and have another form of art that is in my arsenal of abilities. And something about ceramics just calls my name.
- Write a Letter to Myself Every Month As some of you may know from previous posts, I think I have told you, I love to write letters to myself wether that is my younger self, older self or even my current self. It has been a great method of self-discovery and healing. I want to write a letter every month as a way of connecting with my inner thoughts and feelings and as a way to understand myself on a deeper level. Each month I will pick an era of myself that I would like to speak to and I will write her a letter. It will all depend on what I am feeling at that moment and what I am going through. At the end of the year I will look back at those letters and hopefully learn some things or be reminded of things that happened or thoughts that I had. Or be reminded that I am still awesome!:)
- My last one is Sobriety, I rarely ever have a drink and when I do it is a small glass or two of wine or a seltzer but every time I have an alcoholic drink it immediately makes me sick. It can be two sips and I already have a stomach ache. I believe it has to do with the fact that my liver is kind of already dealing with a lot of medications from my heart disease so adding alcohol just pushes it over the edge. Personally I do not want to do that anymore. I want to improve my liver health so not having alcohol is one of the ways I have chosen.
These are just a few of the things on my list that I felt comfortable sharing with you all. I hope this maybe inspires you to make a list of all the things you would like to do or accomplish in this new year or to work towards for the next few years. Although I am not one for New Year’s resolutions I think that vision boards wether written out or collaged or a great way to visualize the life you want and a practical way of taking the first step in achieving that life. If you would like, let me know a few of the things on your lists or boards, I would love to know what you are seeking in this life. Thank you to all my readers and subscribers you honestly mean so much to me! Happy 2024!
