It’s the Holidays

The holidays, what are your thoughts? Do you like this time of year? Do you hate it? Are you somewhere in between?

I tend to find myself somewhere in between. I don’t love it and I don’t hate it. There are things I like and things I don’t. It used to be my favorite time of year and then I grew up. The holidays with my immediate family, parents, sister and brother is great! Love it! But certain aspects of the holidays with extended family have been tainted. I still go and try my best to participate but the magic is gone. I am not going to go into all the details just that…it is not the same. As we come up on the holiday season I am trying my hardest to see it from the eyes of the younger me. The me who saw the magic and loved it. The me who was so deliriously excited when they started to play holiday music on the radio. Someday I may go back to that version of me and I truly hope that day comes soon, but for now I will focus on the times and traditions I do love.

Those words you just read were written by the Kaylie of 2022. And as the Kaylie of 2023 I still feel pretty much the same. I am trying a little harder this year to be excited and enjoy all the wonderful things that this time of year can bring. Like the decorations, the food, the music, and the overall sense of happiness that seems to be drifting through the air, Although this year can be difficult for a number of reasons it has redeeming qualities.

This year is my first year of the past eight that I am working true retail. I will admit I am actually excited. Although I am not entirely aware of what I am getting myself into I am excited for Black Friday. My last Black Friday I worked in true retail was the year I graduated high school and although it was a while ago I remember it being very fast paced and going by quickly. And who doesn’t love a work day going by quickly?

I hope that your holiday season is an enjoyable one whether you celebrate or not and that you are able to find something or some things that make you happy.

Thank you for reading! I appreciate you all!
