As I move along this journey of self care I have decided to set a few goals for each month. Starting with this month, August. This month I turn 26, we also get a puppy and I am determined to start the journey of revamping and prioritizing my finances and putting in the work that is required to achieve the future I dream about. I have compiled a list of six goals I feel I am able to achieve.
August Goals:
- Save $300
- Take one yoga class
- Read one book
- Blog at least three times a week
- Go to the beach once
- Take a walk every week
Goal number one (Saving $300) is my first step in prioritizing my finances. With a steady form of income I am determined to be smart and strategic with my money, I consider this the first baby step.
Goal number two (taking a yoga class) is something that I have wanted to do for a long time but was overcome with anxiety at the very thought of participating in a yoga class with strangers. I have and continue to do yoga many days…by myself in my room without anyone around. This is a way for me to go out and do something alone and face my social anxiety.
Goal number three (read one book) I chose because I have been in a reading slump lately. I have been going to the library regularly and picking out books that sound interesting but never actually getting around to reading them. I have decided that it is because I feel overwhelmed with the number of books I have on my TBR and the pressure I feel knowing I only have a deadline to read them before they are due back. So, I have decided to pick one book that I have been wanting to read (a book that I happen to own) and focus on reading and finishing it. If I am able to do so, then I can pick one more. No more overwhelming feeling and no more pressure.
Goal number four (blogging at least three times a week) is something I have decided is more conducive to my schedule as well as a small challenge for me. Last week was a very rare week when I had an abundance of inspiration and was feeling very ambitious. I thought for a second that I could maintain 6-7 posts a week. Maybe someday. For now I will stick to three. I am also thinking of changing the schedule to Thursday, Friday and Saturday instead of Tuesday and Wednesday.
My second to last goal (go to the beach) is something that I have been planning on doing all summer. I live in a beach town and have yet to go! It is one of the places I feel the most at peace so you would think I would be there as much as possible. Well, as life happens I have not had the most time available to me but within that free time I have found other things to do. Now that we are in the last month of summer, I feel as though now is the time. Now or never right? I will finally have a beach day/picnic. (Weather permitting)
My sixth and final goal is taking a walk every week. I have decided that it can be a short 10-15 min walk or a long 30 min- 1hr. Whatever feels right to me that day is exactly what I am going to do. As I mentioned we are also getting a puppy (actually next week) so he will need to be walked. As I will not be his main caretaker ( he is technically my sister’s dog) I will not always be walking with him but I figure it is a good habit to have.
