Setting Intentions For Your Day

Setting intentions for your day wether that be one word or a statement to carry with you is a great way to be present. I got the idea from a yoga video I watched on YouTube the channel is called Yoga with Adriene. After the yoga sessions she says to pick one word to carry with and embrace throughout the day. I loved the idea! I put my own spin on it and decided to write out different positive words on strips of paper and fold them up and pick a few at random every day. It has helped me ground myself and bring my focus back to the positive more than a few times.

For my words I chose: beauty, wonder, freedom, healing, ease, peace, comfort, nature, calm, patience, joy, positivity, manifestation, rest, kindness, humor, dedication, success, adventure, and happiness

Whichever words I choose I try my best to incorporate them into my day wether I spend the day by myself or with others. For example if I get dedication, kindness, and healing I would do my best to put in great effort and dedication at my job and I would strive to be extra kind to myself and anyone I come in contact with. And for healing I would find something to do that would feel healing to me in someway like a relaxing shower at the end of the day or journaling out all my frustrations or hurt feelings if I had any.

I have found that setting specific intentions each day aside from the typical to do lists and the “try to enjoy the day” mantra, has made me more happy to be here and more willing to get on with the day.

Remember those intentions are not only for you to treat others it is also for you to treat yourself. The saying, “treat others how you wish to be treated” I think translates back as well. Treat yourself how you treat others. If you treat others with kindness and grace treat yourself with kindness and grace. We are naturally more critical and hard on ourselves so it is important to remember that you are only human. You are going to make mistakes and you may not win every time but being the cheerleader and comforter for yourself is absolutely a must. I once heard someone say, “Treat yourself how you would treat your best friend.” If you would do something for your best friend allow yourself the freedom to do that same thing for you. If you ever feel guilty taking care of yourself, like I do at times, remember if you are not caring for and loving yourself how are you going to have enough mental and physical energy to care for others.

So, set those intentions, embrace those positive words and start looking forward to the day. Taking care of yourself is always a must and you are always worth it.
