Is it Bad Luck?

A flash of light cracks open the sky right before a crash of thunder sends a jolt through my body. I close my umbrella, giving up my warmth and dry clothes for the safety of not attracting a lighting bolt. I duck my head as I blink away the rain droplets racing down my face and tempting their intrusion of my eyes. All I wanted was a peaceful walk not a war against the common cold and the possibility of being fried by nature. I do love a good rainstorm…when I am indoors. My favorite pink and yellow dress was now soaking wet, my white converse…not so white anymore. April showers were supposed to bring May flowers not more May showers. The few people that were caught in the same predicament as me were much more prepared. Many wore rain coats or just simply coats. I shivered again as I thought about how warm they must be and how cold I am. I start to jog, only two blocks away from my apartment and the warmth and sanctuary it promised. I look ahead of me every few steps just to make sure I am not going to plow into anyone. Wouldn’t that be the cherry on top of this day. I look up just as I plant my right foot into a puddle. The water comes all the way up to my ankle. “Ah!” I squeal as I pull my foot out of the mini swimming pool. I set my foot back on the darkened pavement and feel my sock cling to my foot as water oozes from my shoe, soaked. “Great.” I let out a VERY frustrated sigh as I turn my face to the sky, close my eyes and let the rain pour over me. Out of nowhere laughter bubbles from my stomach and erupts into the sky. I stand there laughing, laughing at my soaked self, laughing at my apparent lack of luck and laughing at the fact I was angry because I considered for just a moment that Mother Nature was doing this to me on purpose.

I am not sure the meaning of this little story…I just felt the urge to write fiction today rather than nonfiction like usual. I hope some of you enjoy it!
